Why
most diets don't work Most weight loss plans are just based on restricting the amount, or types
of food that you eat. So you may successfully lose some weight, but as soon as you stop you go back to your old eating habits,
and gain weight again.
How can Hypnotherapy help? Because trying to control your diet alone is usually
not enough to lose weight and keep it off, Hypnotherapy concentrates of two main areas; breaking the overeating habit
and lifestyle changes.
You do not consciously think about how you manage
to walk or drive a car, these functions are controlled by your unconscious mind. The unconscious mind also stores your past
experiences and habits that you have acquired over the years. So although consciously you may try and eat more healthily,
there may be an unconscious block that is stopping you from acheiving this.
Through hypnosis we tap into the
resources of the unconscious mind and use them to encourage new healthy habits and lifestyle changes.
Some of the following are lifestyle choices that are
considered as part of the Hypnotherapy session:
It must be flexible and not extreme, although some personal effort is required in weight
management, making it too hard may demotivate you and then you end up going back to your old eating habits. Banning certain
foods is also to be avoided. If you like chocolate biscuits removing them from your diet only makes you desire them
more and then you risk coming off your diet and binge eating on chocolate biscuits. The key is to reduce the amount that you
eat of certain food types, not to remove them totally from your eating plan.
Fruit and vegetables,
should be included in your diet to help give you energy and boost your immune system. It is important that your diet is nutritional
and balanced.
Drink more water, the brain can sometimes confuse messages of thirst with those
of hunger, so drinking more water can sometimes help with hunger pangs. You should try and drink about 2 litres of water
a day.
Can I cut down on the amount of alcohol I drink? alcohol in moderation, can have health
benefits for your heart. However, it also is high in calories, so this can impact on your weight.
Don't
be over ambitious, be realistic regarding your timescales and the amount of weight that you want to lose. It is generally
accepted that 1 to 2 pounds is a healthy amount to lose per week. Don't set unrealistic targets, if you are not sure what
your ideal target weight is, consult your doctor for advice.
Gently increase the amount of exercise that
you take, the aim is to increase this in a controlled way. Just look for opportunities to walk further, or take
the stairs instead of the lift. If you looking to join a gym or take up running and you haven't taken exercise for
a while, speak to your G.P. first.
