What is hypnosis?Hypnosis is a natural state which is experienced every day. For example in bed first thing in the morning, when you
are not quite awake and feeling relaxed. It is an intermediate state between being asleep and fully awake.
In a hypnotic state, the body remains relaxed, but the mind becomes
highly focused enabling you to look for solutions.
While under hypnosis you are aware of what is being said, if you wanted to you could leave at any time, but
you should feel so comfortable that you won't want to.
Will I lose control under hypnosis? No, this
is a common misconception, created by stage hypnotists, where people appear to be doing things out of character.
Hypnotherapy
is about empowering the person under hypnosis to give them more control. No one can force you to do anything against your
will while under hypnosis.
Stage hypnotists provide an entertainment show, and the people on stage tend to be extroverts
and are only doing things to show off to their friends. If a stage hypnotist asked them to do anything that would cause them
harm they would immediately reject the suggestion.
How will I know if I have been hypnotised? There
can be a misunderstanding as what a trance entails. Because they remain mentally alert while under hypnosis, occasionally
some people may not feel that they have been hypnotised. However, they are surprised by how much time has passed since the
start of the session. This is a time distortion phenomena which occurs under hypnosis. Most people feel comfortable and very
relaxed.
Can I use hypnotherapy instead of treatment from my GP? No, hypnotherapy is not an
alternative but a complementary treatment, and a qualified hypnotherapist will work with your GP to help your condition. Medication
or treatment should never be stopped without consulting you GP first.

What is Clinical Hypnotherapy? Clinical Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis to treat a wide variety of physical and physiological
problems, and can aid in the cessation of undesired habits.
Hypnotherapy helps to give an individual greater control so that they can achieve their goals.
Is hypnosis the same as sleep? No, it is not sleep, but a very relaxed physical state which
may look like sleep to an observer, but you will always remain mentally alert. Can I come out of an hypnotic
trance if I want to? Hypnotherapy is about giving you control so if want to, you can come out of a trance by
yourself at anytime.
Can anyone be hypnotised? People are all different and some can relax more easily than others.
Most people can at least enter a light trance, which is all that is required to benefit from hypnotherapy. However, if you
don’t want to be hypnotised no hypnotherapist can make you enter a trance.
Why is
hypnotherapy better than will power? Will power and logic belong to the conscious part of your mind, however, habits, attitudes
and learned behaviours reside in the unconscious mind.
If you have a negative behaviour or habit which is based
in you unconscious mind and been there for many years, determination may not be enough to allow you to change.
A
hypnotherapist can talk directly to the unconscious mind to help you make the required changes.
